Kavitha Ramu

Revenue Officer and Classical Dancer

Kavitha Ramu is A District Revenue Officer, with the Government Of Tamil Nadu and a Senior Bharathanatyam exponent, Kavitha Ramu has been successfully donning the dual hats of an able administrator and a classical dance artist, performing soloist, for the past 20 years, with great passion, pride and panache.

With over 500 stage performances, a handful of choreographic works and thematic presentations to her credit, Kavitha, is an acclaimed danseuse today, who continues to perform at various prestigious platforms, both within India and Abroad.

An ‘A’ grade artist of Doordarshan, she is also an empanelled artist of the ICCR and is proficient in Nattuvangam, which she learnt from her Guru Smt. Indira Rajan.

She is a University topper in MA Public Administration and a member of the State Civil Services belonging to the Govt. of TN and currently pursuing her doctorate in Development Administration.

Highlights of her dancing career:
  • KavithaRamu was the cultural coordinator for the opening and closing ceremonies of the SAF games held in 1995, in Chennai, where she choreographed various dance forms for the mega event.
  • Her choreographic presentations include MURALI MADURI, THE PEACOCK and KaadhalagiKasindhu (Love, The Rasa),they were well received by the art critics and rasikas and were a resounding success.
  • The India International Rural Cultural Centre (IIRCC) invited her to interact with and perform for the lesser-privileged school children in the suburbs of Delhi in 2012.
Unique thematic presentations in her repertoire :
  • Navarasam- Choreographed specially for the VIII world Tamil Conference combining verses from Tamil Classics, set to music by Violin Maestro Sri Kunnakudi R. Vaidhayanathan
  • Balaghandham– Verses from KambaRamayanam – depicting Sri Rama’s, Childhood and SitaKalyanam.
  • Azhwargal Kanda Ambujappadan– A thematic presentation compiling verses from NaalayiraDivyaPrepandham and compositions of Smt. Ambujam Krishna
